Re: Dave Mackenzie - Sad News
Sorry to see him go. He was one of the highlights of York for many years. With his rascally sense of humour, and his nice smelling pipe, he was not to be missed. In addition I would sometimes be invited to visit him in his trailer for a drink and a philosophical talk about things, and some second-ha...

Re: Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) & Flight Instructor Upgrade Course
There is a bunch of on-line work to do before any of the classes. Probably worth your while to sign up and do that whenever you have internet. There are articles to read, manuals to read, quizzes to do, comments to make etc. I started, but not sure how much should be done before the first Saturday c...

Re: Transport Canada survey on near mid air collisions.
Our towplanes do not have transponders. They are of no use for collision avoidance in any case. Only Toronto terminal radar could see them and possibly do anything about it. They would have to be altitude recording transponders, and the aircraft would have to be in contact with Toronto terminal radi...

Kitchen and clubhouse
There is still a lot of food in the frig and freezer, and the clubhouse still needs some cleanup.
Can we get some volunteers that are NOT the social committee to help with this?
We are working on the annual for LTX.
See you Saturday

Re: The other side of the Travel Trophy cross-country experience.
Thanks for sharing. A fine achievement on a marginal day.
I also suggest everyone take a paper map as a backup. Final glide rings can be drawn on it for convenience from York and other destinations.
Also, you now have to go out to Toronto Soaring as they came and took the trophy away today!

Circuits
I am seeing a lot of bad behaviour with respect to circuits. Aside from wrong side circuits and at least one glider trying to going the wrong way, the majority of the issues are low circuits. 1. Don't be low. Enter at 1000' even if your glider is 40-1. If you get down to near 1000' then you are near...

OPERATIONS: Reminders
I think we all understand golf cart DI requirements now. As my friend said' "Never be in a hurry" AND "If you can't be on time, be early" Landing aircraft - wait to talk with your student/intro until you have turned the glider 90 degrees for towing to the taxiway. - when the cart...

Re: Golf carts
A DI shall be done before a golf cart is used. It is not about safety primarily. It is about having equipment that continues to work properly and addressing issues so they do not get big or occur during operations. It takes very little time, and I do not have patience for excuses about something so ...

Work is still ongoing on the towplanes, so please stay out for now. We may do a little tidy up tomorrow, but we need all those tools and parts handy. LTX and the runway should be ready to go soon. It's almost firm enough to fly a 2-33 right now. Don't remind me of the rain and snow in the forecast!
