Re: Fastets RC model, does it require an engine?? NO!
Turbine powered RC pilot: We go really, really fast. Sailplane RC pilot: Hold my beer. That was awesome. I've studied the concept of dynamic soaring, and I'm not convinced it would be of much practical use to a "real" glider. But to see it used like this was just... fascinating. https://en...

Re: BAD PILOTS
Too much attention is paid to which aircraft are left in which order. Rough guess most days the front third is pulled out regardless. On that, we agree. It's something I don't quite understand - there's plenty of room for all of our ships, even without extreme precision, and a third to a half of th...

Re: BAD PILOTS
That sounds like a great idea, but I don't think it's realistic. Most days, the order in which the hangar is packed is not determined until the end of the day, so you can't arbitrarily pack the plane away when you're finished with it - you may end up putting it at the back of the hangar, when for so...

Re: BAD PILOTS
I was one of the last to leave and checked the flight shack. There were SEVERAL unfinished cards in there. We usually have nobody filling in flight cards and you have to do it yourself! Before you leave, or after packing the hangar, go back and make sure all that is done. It is my understanding tha...

Re: Glider/Tug communication
Re Tow Speeds : The standard SSA signals (which I believe are the same in Canada) are as follows - Too Fast - yaw side to side several times / Too Slow - waggle wings several times. These are signals which are not currently being reviewed for tow pilot checkouts but should be at least reviewed in t...

Re: Glider/Tug communication
I considered it - but because so much effort was spent on controlling the plane, I had lost track of the field and couldn't be sure that I could in fact glide home. I was reasonably certain that I could reach the field once we got to the planned release altitude, but not so much before then.

Re: Glider/Tug communication
Is this something worth exploring? How many club ships do we have without radios? Four. Just the 2-33 fleet is without radios. They have no electrical system at all, so would need battery mounts, batteries, wires and connectors. And historically, a large part of our revenue comes from training in t...

Re: Glider/Tug communication
You can buy a nice small handheld aviation radio ( ICOM ) for about 250 Canadian. I use one in RRP. Cost of putting a radio in a 2-33 is not very practical. Most of the advanced fleet have good radios in them. I'm finding them listed for around $350 without bluetooth or $400 with at the local pilot...

Glider/Tug communication
Let me preface this by stating this is not a complaint, it's an observation. On a recent tow, I found myself struggling to control the 2-33 I was flying. I only figured out why this tow was so difficult when I glanced at the ASI. I was flying at 70mph, in a glider that's normally towed at 60. It was...
