Presidents Report December 2023

Post by Dave Bax »

The big news for this month:

EKV engine: has been transported to ATC for inspection with a view to refurbishing. If the results of inspection are favourable, EKV will be flying again in May.

LTX radio: is kaput, in November the Board decided to look for a good 2nd hand replacement, on going.

Derelict farmhouse: has been demolished and the land leveled. The campground committee will organize grassing and trees for the site.

Annual Spring banquet: the Board decided same venue as last year, similar date (last Saturday of April if possible).

Fly-in including WW1 museum: The Board agreed to allow pre-planning, depending on support and interest it will go ahead.

HK students: 4 have been invited.

YSA radio frequency: consideration will be given to painting this on the main hangar roof.

Clubhouse floor: volunteers to pull the floor up in the Spring requested.

Safety manuall: is being updated over winter, all members should familiarize themselves with the content during 2024

Treasurer: anyone with a minimal amount of accountancy experience is requested to contact Keith or myself, with a view to assisting in the work.

The FAS system: the club accounting software (flights/payments/banking/treasury reports) needs updating between now and next season. It is likely that members will not always be able to view their FAS balance or flights during that period.

AGM 2024: The President, Treasure and CFI 3 year director terms end. Any member already of 2 years standing interested in becoming a Board member, please contact me. During the AGM questions to the current/new board will be invited.

Membership fees 2024: The Board have agreed to discuss fee structure and/or increases sometime in the new year, meanwhile it is agreed that any member paying their membership fees prior to April will pay at 2023 rates.

Flights/Finances: The number of flights were up a couple of hundred last year, flying membership was stable, finances are on budget and healthy. Of note, the $55,000 engine fund will now disappear on the EKV engine work, so we are somewhat vulnerable to a catastrophic failure with LTX or EBI in the very short term, but not unsurmountable.

Best wishes for the holidays and New Year!
