Resignation

Post by Paul Chalifour »

Sent to the Board:

I recognize that it is very difficult for an organization like York Soaring to change its culture and long standing traditions. Last summer and for the several preceeding years we have experienced a series of incidents that by luck alone were not fatal. Underlying many of these incidents are cultural practices and attitudes that if not changed will continue to generate the same incidents.

For cultural change to occur, the organization and its members have to be prepared to accept that some things we have always done may not have been correct, are unsafe and need to be changed. Delegating decisions on matters like this to the most culturally bound members in the club provides low probability of an objective outcome.

I cannot continue to serve on a board that is in denial of its responsibility to make its own decision on serious safety issues.

Please consider this as my resignation.
