Presidents Report March 2024

Post by Dave Bax »

The better weaather and the new flying season draw near.

Just to remind, to maintain a glider license in good order, a pilot needs to attend at least every 2 years a Transport Canada Reccureent training seminar. This year York Soaring members have at least 2 opportunities to do this remotely via ZOOM:

Saturday March 23rd 13:00-16:00 - TC approved Glider pilot recurrent training seminar
(see the forum entry for SAC AGM for connection details)

Sunday April 21st .... 16:00-19:00 TC Recurrent Training - National Safety Report (3hrs) presented by David Donaldson and hosted by SOSA Hangar talks (see the forum entry for hangar talks for connection details.

There is also the opportunity to attend the SAC AGM in person, and consequently attend the TC Recurrent training seminar live.
(see the forum entry for SAC AGM for location, parking, lunch etc)

Other dates to remember:

Sunday March 31st Last day to save $100 on full Membership fee for 2024

Saturday April 20th 18:00 Annual Banquet (there will be a post about prices, location on the forum soon) but same venue as last year.

Friday May 31st 17:00 power fly-in for Bar-b-q at the campground

Sunday 9th June 10:00 York Soaring AGM in the clubhouse (4 vacant director posts, see other post on the forum)

Saturday June 22nd 10:00-16:00 Antique Fly-in (rain day Sunday 23rd, see other posts on the forum)

Thanks to Tom Fraser for taking over Social events chair
Thanks to Barry for taking over Club house maintenance chair
Thanks to Ken Voort for taking over Water management
Thanks to John Gill for backing up Safety Officer and water management and Campground management chair
Thanks to Sharon for processing the paperwork for a potentially substantial Wellington North Grant for our fly-in

EKV is off-site with engine refurbishment in progress.
Most likely we start the season with 2 tow planes and 10 gliders (one of the 1-34s will remain in its box until a proven need for it)

We are expecting 3 and possibly 4 Hong Kong Cadets last days of July and first 4 weeks of August.
