Getting Prepared for the Flying Season

Post by John Brake »

Flying season is fast approaching... are your documents ready?

1) Aviation Document Booklet. Check the expiry date on the page with your photo. Flying on an expired ADB is not allowed. If you are about to expire, or expired, follow this link:
https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/licens ... nt-booklet
TC Requests you apply at least 90 days in advance. You'll need a recent passport photo.

2) Medical. Check the expiry date on the page later in the booklet. You need at least a Cat 4 medical to fly gliders, Cat 3 for power. Also, YSA policy on flying passengers is that you need a Cat 3.

3) Currency (1). If you have not flown in over five (5) years, you will be required to write a PSTAR exam before being allowed to fly solo. This can be done at the airfield for about $50.

4) Currency (2). Make sure that you can prove that you have performed the TC required two-year recurrent training. There is a session coming up 21 April 2024 (mentioned in an earlier forum topic), or you can do the self-study test from last year's Aviation Safety Letter. You should note the training session in your log book or carry a printout of the completed self-study test in your logbook.

Please Note: If you cannot provide proof of all four of the above items, you will not fly solo!
