Presidents Report April 2024

Post by Dave Bax »

April got off to a good start, with excellent finishing of the club house floor following on from a good turnout of volunteers the previous month.
As I write this, a work crew is painting the walls of the clubhouse (and more).

The various Club Fees remain unchanged from 2023, apart from adult MEMBERSHIP rising $100 from 1st April. The rational for this will be discussed at the AGM.

The annual club dinner on the 20th at Brampton Legion 609 was well attended. The hilights being (a) the return of John and Tracey Brake, both of whom will be contributing significantly to the running of both the flight line and the club throughout the season (b) A trophy to Barry for his great volunteer support to the club year after year (c) Ken Voorts flashy 3 (possibly 4) piece suit !

Wellington North Township have approved our grant application for $1000 towards our June fly-in expenses. Many thanks to those involved in the preparation of the bid paper.

Flying finally got going at the club, during a pause in the poor weather this month, on Friday 26th, with four glider instructors checked out and two tow pilots. This was followed on Saturday 27th with the instructors meeting, which included information to tow pilots and a brief safety report. A common theme was for all members to make more effort towards avoiding low circuits and landing short. Very soon, taxiway lines will be marked out again and optional reference points for landing will also be marked on the main runway.

The new FAS is almost ready, has been functionally ok in our test environment but hit a snag going live. It should be available soon.

It looks like poor weather for the rest of this month, hope to see you all soon in May for spring checks (dont forget to bring your pilot document and logbook) and, not least, a planned club dinner (see Forum post). Last day of May (Friday 31st) will be our first hosting of a power aircraft fly-in for burgers.

A few reminders for June: The club AGM 2nd Sunday of June (June 9th), the antique fly-in along with Great War Flying Museum 4th Saturday (June 22nd)
