The Cowley summer camp is just a couple of weeks away, please register if you are planning on coming. The camp directors are George Haeh, Sheldon Steinke, and myself, Ray Troppmann.

TUS (Take Up Slack) is used for daily flight tracking. Pilot's payments will be credited to their TUS account and all fees, which include registration, tows, winch, O2 refills, and any other merchandise purchases, will be taken from their TUS account.

Saturday, July 27th will be used for camp setup, airfield maintenance, glider rigging, etc. Pilots meeting will start on Sunday July 28th at 09:30 by the cook shack

The cost of registration is $100 for the full camp or $25 per day if you are only planning on staying a few days
The tow charge will be $20 / 1000 foot
Winch launch will be $14
O2 refills will be $20

The Camp dinner will be held on Saturday, Aug 3rd. Other evening activities are usually arranged by the attendees. People have gone hiking, fishing, or exploring the back roads by vehicle.

Camping is free, there is no power, and water is available from a manual water pump. If you're bringing a RV there is a dump station and water available in Lundbreck by the fire hall,15 minutes away, or the Co-op in Pincher Creek.
Campfires will be determined by local fire restrictions.

Cowley is Canada's premier wave soaring site. Numerous diamond height gain flights are made each year, as well as record- breaking flights for speed, distance and altitude. As well as wave, there is also decent thermal soaring at Cowley and the nearby Porcipine Hills. Cowley is operated by the Alberta Soaring Council (ASC), which owns and operates a tow plane at the two annual camps. ASC is also our sport's signatory to the wave window agreement with TC governing wave flying at Cowley, and the opening and closing of the "wave window".
I flew out of Pincher Creek near Cowley for five summers and would recommend the Cowley Camps very highly. I have 23 videos available for viewing on Vimeo. Some of these videos were made at Cowley and Pincher Creek. Take a look.
Be aware that it is a hard 4 day drive from our field to Cowley and 4 days to return. Also, there are no gliders for rent in the Cowley area. So, bring your own ship. You will need good high altitude oxygen equipments, and know how to use it.
If there was enough interest, one of YSA's two seaters could be driven out and kept there for the two camps. Our members could fly to Calgary and rent a car for the duration of their visit to the West.
Mostly it is western Canadian pilots that get to the two Cowley camps, with the majority of them coming from the Cu Nim club. Unfortunately, Cowley is beyond the reach of most eastern Canadian glider pilots on account of the time, expense and logistics involved.
If you can overcome these hurdles, a visit to a Cowley camp would be an unforgetable thrill.
