Season is in full swing now, with 7 days a week operation in place.
Turnout on good days is on the low side, but that has made carrying out the Spring checks painless.
Congratulations to Anton for also converting to the K21 and flying his first K21 solo this past weekend.
The big news, of course, is the arrival of the Great Lakes Club at York Soaring. They flew in their K21 and Twin Grob on Saturday, with other aircraft arriving via road during the weekend. They will be with us while their tow plane (A Pawnee) is addressing wing issues. Their expectation is a minimum of a 2 month stay with us. Pease make their members welcome, they are a mix of instructors, students, club pilots and private owners.
We have yet to discuss sharing of aircraft, but most likely Great Lakes will fly their own aircraft (with their two seaters tied down outside, for easy access) and YSA members will fly our aircraft. Great Lakes will follow YSA operating procedures (e.g. regarding circuits, parking on the field) and pay club rates for tows.
Regarding our own two Pawnees, EBI should be online in the next week or so. EKV may not be available until the end of the season at the earliest.
Some key dates:
Wednesday 11th June: a flyin of many powered aircraft from 1100 onwards, with bar-b-q food in the early aevening. All members welcome, to socialize with the power pilots and promote gliding.
Saturday 14th June: AGM (which should be a quick affair) and probably followed by a Safety and Instructors meeting, to which all members are invited.
Saturday 21st June: Open to the Public Day, it is hoped ALL YSA members will turn out for the many volunteer roles necessary. Please conmtact Sharon on the AGM day to confirm you attendance and preffered role(s). Final spread sheets will be produced that weekend detailing all the roles needed (from flying tow planes, intro's, flight line duties, golfcarts, assisting parking, PA announcing, collecting money, ensuring safety, talking with the visitors and promoting gliding and the club in general. first aid.
Sunday 22nd: rain day for the Open to the Public Day.
Saturday July 5th: commence weekend line-chief rota (see othe forum posts and sign up with Sarah for your pefered shift). Under 19 and over 79 members and new members exempt.
All club members should be well aware of the hard work performed by just a handful of members earlier this year in getting the club in good shape for the season. Whether removng rats/mice/ants replacing flooring, improving the main hangar door rails, cleaning the club house, cabins, checking the plumbing and electrics, getting the tractors and golf carts up to spec, designing/printing posters, removong debris, dealing with local authorities, dealing with Transport Canada on behalf of particular members, auditing accounts, dealing with social media, processing repeat and new memberships, repair and replacement of tow ropes, secretarial work, social committee work, safety committee work, organizing management of and improvement to the campground, and not least servicing aircraft, completing annuals, fixing glider tralers. Probably many more items I am not even aware of.
There are no immediate plans to change the fleet, however it should be noted that YSW and QPR and IKI are not insured for air work (they can be, with one business day notice) IKI is being repaired off-site and hoped to be returned for the 21st June.
Have a good season!
