Age and Citizenship

To obtain a Canadian Glider Pilot Licence you must either be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident
of not more than 6 years, or a citizen of a contracting country/state that grants similar privileges to
Canadian Citizens. What this means is that as long as you are a citizen of a country recognized by the
International Civil Aviation Organization, and can provide the proper documentation, proving age and
citizenship, you can hold a Canadian Glider Pilot Licence. At last count there were 189 countries or
contracting states recognized by ICAO.
You may hold a Glider Student Pilot Permit once you are 14. This is necessary for you to go solo, but
you may start flight training at any time as long as you are physically able to control the aircraft.
