Licence Requirements

To be licenced the applicant must: be 16, hold a valid Medical Certificate, pass a flight test by a valid
glider flight instructor, complete 20 supervised solo flights accumulating at least 2 hours of solo flight
time, complete 15 hours of ground school instruction, and obtain at least 60% on the Transport Canada
glider pilot exam. As well applicants must complete a language proficiency test in either French or
English. At this point the applicant’s logbook is certified and an application is completed (including
standard passport photographs) and submitted to Transport Canada and accompanied by a letter of
competency from a glider flight instructor. In the interim, an authorized person may endorse the applicants
student pilot permit for glider pilot privileges until a permanent licence is issued. Note that fees
are applicable for writing the examination and issuance of Medical Certificates and licences.
