Circuits

Student at this stage should know that if they are too low they should either abbreviate circuit, and/or choose another runway. It should be emphasized that they should resist ‘stretching’ the circuit. Even under adverse circumstances instructors should be always checking that students fly co-ordinated turns with the proper airspeed for the conditions and use 30-degree angle of bank turns. Good advice at this stage is to be more conservative with the entry point altitude and position on the first circuit of the day, as it is hard to judge the flight conditions ahead of time.

Winds Gradient/Shear/Turbulence may be encountered and so avoid turns close to the ground. In these cases the lower wing may suddenly stall due to wind gradient effects or turbulence. Make sure that you keep current with your stall/spin recovery techniques. Students should also be advised of the dangers of excessive sideslip near the ground under the same conditions.
