Green Zone

The Green Zone is where we find the aircraft in a stable flight condition, usually straight and level flight. While we have to pay attention, modern aircraft are usually quite stable, and our concerns can be directed more towards flight planning and monitoring. Decisions can be made in time spanning minutes.  Stress levels are usually low. Our attention can directed most of the time away from controlling the aircraft, towards goals or activities more than 1000 feet (300 m) in all directions from our current location. Efficient pilots should, for argument’s sake, should be spending about 60% of their time in the ‘Green’ planning, 30% monitoring, and 10% controlling.
